Gaspare DIZIANI (Belluno, 1689 - Venice, 1767) - Lot 240
Gaspare DIZIANI (Belluno, 1689 - Venice, 1767) Joshua stopping the sun during battle. Pen and brown ink wash on light tobacco paper. Circa 1740-1750. Height 16.6 cm. Width : 28.0 cm. annotated lower right 'Franceschini da Bologna'. Provenance: - Vienna, Count Moritz von Fries (177-1826), his drystamp lower left, Lugt 2903; - Turin, private collection; - France, private collection. Note: Gaspare Diziani often treated secular subjects or those taken from ancient history, but did not finalize them in paintings or frescoes. The Museo Correr in Venice preserves several drawings of heroic themes* with a similar freedom of writing to this unpublished sheet, which is among the most seductive and dates from his artistic maturity. The artist's specialist At. Dorigato places these compositions between 1740 and 1750. *Venice, Museo Correr, inv. M 5404, M 6925, M6903 and M 6893 reproduced in Attila Dorigato, Disegni antichi, Venice, museo Correr, 1981.
