Henri Ferdinand BELLAN (1870–1922) - Lot 158
Henri Ferdinand BELLAN (1870–1922) The Funeral of Félix FAURE (1841–1899). Oil on canvas. Signed lower right, dated and inscribed "Paris, February 23, 1899". H. 65 x W. 81 cm Note: This work by the French painter Henri Ferdinand Bellan (1870–1922) serves as a testament to one of the most significant events of the Third Republic. Paul Cambon considered Félix Faure to be the first president of the Third Republic to have a very clear understanding of his role in terms of national foreign policy. He told Le Gall: “The Constitution has made the President of the Republic the true director of our foreign interests… Félix Faure truly understood this aspect of his role… It is the President of the Republic who is the master of France’s foreign policy.”
