Robert Bresciani, a self-taught painter from Vienne (86), is an engaging and generous figure on the local art scene. A former gymnastics teacher in Jaunay-Clan, he created around himself a true spirit of camaraderie, blending the worlds of sport, education and art. As Michel Bona of the Art86 association points out, "every time, Robert presents us with something strong, a part of himself on display".
Active since the 1970s, Bresciani now boasts over fifty exhibitions. Initially influenced by different schools, he gradually asserted his own style, marked by energetic expressionism. "I'm a gesturalist, I'm a fighter", he claims, faithful to a painting style dominated by the breadth of gesture and the strength of color. Refusing to choose between figuration and abstraction, he readily develops series in which forms evolve from one to the other.
His painting, often centered on simple motifs such as fruit or everyday objects, goes beyond the subject to question the human. He himself speaks of "wild self-therapy", insisting on the instinctive and necessary dimension of his work.
Finally, Bresciani defends an accessible vision of art. In reaction to a market considered elitist, he offers works at deliberately modest prices, and doesn't hesitate to consider donating unsold items to charitable associations.
