Pair of European rollers in polychrome porcelain, perched on tree stumps leaning forward, beaks open and catching caterpillars. The stumps are decorated with mushrooms, foliage, moss and caterpillars in relief.
Based on models by Johann Joachim Kaendler (1706-1775).
Height Height : 37 cm
Restorations on the wings, restored beak with one missing. Accidents on the leaves, some restored. Extremity of a claw restored. Original cracks under the bases.

Samuel Wittwer, The Gallery of Meissen Animals, Augustus the Strong's Menagerie for the Japanese Palace in Dresden, Munich, 2006 pp. 351-352. The author indicates that the model is mentioned in Johann Joachim Kaendler's work registers in August 1735 and authenticated in September 1735.
