Attributed to Leopold GEST (born in 1938) - Lot 217
Attributed to Leopold GEST (born in 1938) Large mirror with a patinated wrought-iron frame decorated with stylized foliage. Circa 1970–1980. Height: 112.5 cm Width: 62 cm Note: Léopold Gest, born in Calais, settled in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence in the late 1960s. There, he developed a body of work centered on metal—particularly iron and steel—which he assembled, transformed, and patinated. His early creations emerged from fragments of salvaged farm tools, resulting in lamps, mirrors, candlesticks, and sculptures. In 1971, he and his wife Noëlla founded a contemporary art gallery in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence. Mirrors hold a special place in Léopold Gest’s body of work; they elegantly explore the interplay between metal structure and reflective surface, which has become one of the hallmarks of his work.
