Jean CLUSEAU-LANAUVE (1914–1997) - Lot 66
Jean CLUSEAU-LANAUVE (1914–1997) The Mountain Village, Lantosque. Oil on canvas. Signed lower right. Countersigned, titled, and dated on the back. Height: 61 cm Width: 73 cm Jean Cluseau-Lanauve was a French painter, draftsman, engraver, and lithographer associated with the École de Paris. Born in Périgueux in 1914, he studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris and developed a body of work largely inspired by the landscapes of the Périgord, seascapes, and scenes of everyday life. His painting, characterized by a restrained composition, simplified forms, and a particular attention to light and color, evolved after the war toward a style with Cubist influences. A professor at the École Estienne from 1951 to 1976 and an Official Painter of the Navy, he received, among other honors, the Venice Prize in 1948 and the Puvis-de-Chavannes Prize in 1993.
