FON, Benin. Fetish featuring, on the top part, a figure whose body is entirely wrapped and containing a magical charge. The whole is held together by fabric ties, decorated with chains and various ritual elements. From this accumulation emerges a highly expressive head, with half-closed eyes suggesting concentration, and ears sculpted in relief. Hardwood, fabric, wrought iron, various materials, traces of indigo pigments and white ritual projections, thick in places. Height Height : 75 cm The aesthetic of this fetish is based on the wrapping and accumulation of materials, giving the figure a strong visual presence. The body, concealed beneath bonds and charges, creates a compact, graphic form, where ritual function meets a surprisingly contemporary plastic reading. This way of enveloping the figure in successive layers evokes, by formal analogy, certain approaches of modern art, where the gesture of wrapping becomes at once protection, transformation and revelation.
