MOBA, northern Togo (Dapaong region) and northern Ghana. - Lot 246
MOBA, northern Togo (Dapaong region) and northern Ghana. Male statue depicting a standing figure with refined, highly stylized graphics. The arms are detached from the body, the legs are camped, and the ovoid head rests on a neck highlighted by a large ring sculpted in relief. The overall effect is one of frontality and extreme reduction of volume, giving the figure a sober, timeless presence. Hardwood, old brown patina, marks of age. The moba sculptures are characterized by a deliberately pared-down aesthetic, in which the simplification of forms and the rigor of lines contribute to a strong plastic intensity. These figures, often linked to the domestic or protective sphere, emphasize mass balance and verticality, inscribing their power in restraint rather than ornament.
