POTO, Democratic Republic of Congo, late 19th - early 20th century. This short sword features a carved handle with beveled edges, once wrapped in materials that have now disappeared. The base of the blade is underlined by a triangular brass element, decorated with geometrical repoussé metalwork. The base of the blade develops two arc-shaped openwork protrusions framing a linear central protrusion. The free-form upper part is enriched with triangular and circular incised motifs, some of which are tiered, giving the whole an assertive formal presence. Wood, wrought iron, brass, old patina and wear marks.
