LOBI, Burkina Faso Statue featuring a standing hermaphrodite - Lot 136
LOBI, Burkina Faso Statue featuring a standing hermaphrodite figure, legs slightly bent, hands placed on the edge of the belly in a symbolic gesture. The chest is marked, and the face, with its interiorized expression, is accentuated by half-closed almond-shaped eyes. The forehead is scarified, and the head is topped by a hemispherical receptacle designed to receive offerings. The cubist, angular construction of the figure lends the whole an archaic, hieratic presence. Wood, old brown patina, marks of use, erosion over time, remains of natural pigments. H. 34 cm Provenance: former Max Izikovitch collection, Paris (according to its current owner).
