LOBI, Burkina Faso. - Lot 126
LOBI, Burkina Faso. Statuette depicting a nude male figure, standing with his arms at his sides. The hands, barely outlined, merge into the continuity of the arms and come to rest on the edge of the belly in a symbolic gesture. The belly is generous, the chest swollen. The face presents an intensely interiorized expression, accentuated by half-closed eyes and a closed mouth, giving the whole a strong, silent presence. The plastic treatment alternates solid volumes and formal simplifications, with particular attention paid to the stability of the posture and the overall balance of the figure. Wood, old sacrificial crusty patina, erosion of time on the legs.
