LOBI, Burkina Faso. - Lot 125
LOBI, Burkina Faso. Statuette featuring a young nude hermaphrodite figure standing on massive, slightly bent legs. The hands are placed on the lower abdomen, in a deliberately enigmatic gesture that may evoke sex or the navel. The belly is round, the chest pronounced. The shaven head, with half-closed eyes and heavy eyelids, lends the whole a calm, stable, interiorized expression. The sculpture subtly articulates angular volumes and softened curves, establishing a masterful dialogue between abstraction and figuration. Hardwood, pigment remains, old erosion localized on the legs, marks of use.
