LOBI, Burkina Faso. Attributed to the master Sikiré Kambiré. - Lot 124
LOBI, Burkina Faso. Attributed to the master Sikiré Kambiré. Tripod seat with a gazelle head at the top, personifying a beneficial bush spirit. Wood, old honey-brown patina, marks of use. Dimensions : 62 × 60 cm Sikiré Kambiré (1896-1963), a master Lobi sculptor trained by Okuena Palenfo, established himself at the beginning of the XXᵉ century as one of the greatest creators of ritual seats. His works are distinguished by the refinement of their volumes, the perfectly balanced tripod composition and the expressive sobriety of the figures. The gazelle head, associated with bush spirits, reflects the spiritual and protective power that the artist knew how to infuse into his creations.
