Michel LE ROY (1916 - 2008) - Lot 167
Michel LE ROY (1916 - 2008)
Collection of five wartime drawings.
Trenches in the Metz region, Moselle front.
1940s.
Pencil and charcoal on paper.
Signed and titled at bottom.
H. 18 x W. 10 cm
Note: Trained in Paris in direct contact with the avant-garde, Michel Le Roy was a pupil and disciple of Robert Delaunay, from whom he retained the power of color, while immersing himself in the teachings of Vassily Kandinsky and Albert Gleizes.
Marked by war and captivity, his work combines rigorous construction with inner intensity.
His still lifes sometimes resemble Bernard Buffet's circled, expressive style.
Present at numerous salons and exhibitions, Le Roy evolved at the heart of the XXᵉ century art scene, exhibiting notably alongside Georges Braque, Pablo Picasso, Raoul Dufy and Francis Picabia.
