DAGARI, Burkina Faso, Ghana - Lot 435
DAGARI, Burkina Faso, Ghana Stylized figure with extremely clean lines, ending in a phallic head, forming a highly modern work. Hardwood, erosion on lower part, old crusty patina Height Height : 70 cm The Dagari, settled in northeastern Ghana and southern Burkina Faso, create ancestor figures known as "Kpiin Dâa" or "Wooden Defunct". These anthropomorphic sculptures, often in the shape of an inverted Y, are kept in the main sanctuary of the patrilineal lineage. The head of the lineage solicits their help through a diviner, regarding them as protectors against disease and evil forces.
