BAMILEKE, Cameroon Dance crest featuring a stylized head with eyes, nose and mouth in relief. The whole is enhanced by a decoration of white and orange milking beads. The cheeks are adorned with cruciform scarification marks, while a circular scarification marks the forehead. Red fabric, black felt, white and orange trade beads, hair; old patina, wear marks. Height Height : 21 cm Width: 13.5 cm Note : This work presents a strikingly modern aesthetic, echoing certain works by Jean-Michel Basquiat in their tension between archaism and expressive fulgurance.
