18th century FRENCH ECOLE - Lot 521
18th century FRENCH ECOLE Likely portrait of an officer of the Military House of the King of France (bodyguards of Louis XV). Oil on canvas. Height Height : 82 cm Width : 65 cm Restorations, small holes and accidents. Note: During the reign of Louis XV (1715-1774), the powdered wig with side rolls was typical of the period from 1740 to 1770. The uniform shown here, blue with silver facings and embroidery, is similar to that worn by the regiments of the King's household. The cuirass worn in this ceremonial way, combined with the order sash (probably the Order of Saint-Louis or the Order of the Holy Spirit, with green silver motifs), suggests that the man depicted is a high-ranking officer or marshal.
