Louis DORIGNY (Paris, 1654 - Verona, 1742) - Lot 516
Louis DORIGNY (Paris, 1654 - Verona, 1742) Allegory of Triumphant Justice Pen and bistre ink wash Height 19.8 cm Width: 29.2 cm Provenance: Vicenza, private collection Preparatory drawing for a fresco. Louis Dorigny made partial use of a burin etching * that his father Michel had engraved in 1639 after Simon Vouet. Both the style and the compositional interpretation of this engraving allow us to date our sheet to around 1670-1680, by which time Louis Dorigny had acquired sufficient renown to create frescoes in churches and villas along the Brenta between Venice and Verona*2. - see attached document. - 2 G. & P.
