Carlo Innocenzo CARLONI, also known as Carlone (Scaria d'Int - Lot 484
Carlo Innocenzo CARLONI, also known as Carlone (Scaria d'Intelvi, 1686 - Idem, 1775) Truth unveiled by Chronos on recto. Saints, male figure & various mushroom studies on verso. Pen and brown ink wash over black stone lines and black stone on verso. Circa 1750. Height 25.6 cm. Width : 34.6 cm. Annotations: 180 in h. on recto Provenance: Florence, Baron Horace Landau Finaly: - Florence, Baron Horace Landau Finaly, his label brought back and glued to the reverse of the old mounting & n° 240 and 241 inventory of his collection, Lugt 1334c; - France, private collection. Note : This unpublished drawing was made in preparation for a ceiling fresco in Cosmo's Palazzo Giovo in 1750, a subject that occupied Carlo Carloni on several occasions, as other versions attest. This spontaneous pen and wash drawing reveals both Carloni's research and virtuosity. It pre-dates the other two versions, whose finish indicates that they were modelli intended for the commissioner. Carlo Carloni exercised his talents early on in Bavaria, as well as in Prague and Vienna, and returned to Lombardy in 1750 to paint frescoes in Brescia, Cosmo, Bergamo and Lugano. * S. Coppa, P. O.
