19th CENTURY FRENCH ECOLE, after Hyacinthe RIGAUD (1659-1743 - Lot 480
19th CENTURY FRENCH ECOLE, after Hyacinthe RIGAUD (1659-1743) Presumed portrait of Jacques de Fitz-James (1670-1734), First Duke of Berwick. Oil on canvas. Height 146 cm Width : 115 cm Restoration work. Note: Jacques de Fitz-James, first Duke of Berwick (1670-1734), natural son of King James II of England and Arabella Churchill, illustrates the interweaving of European nobility at the crossroads of several dynasties. An outstanding officer, he rallied to France after his father's exile and became Marshal of France, making history with his victories, notably in the War of the Spanish Succession. The original of our painting is kept at the Château de Versailles.
