Height Height : 62 cm This bust portrait may be a posthumous tribute to one of the Commune's principal military leaders, Louis Nataniel Rossel. It was carved in marble in 1872 by Vital-Gabriel Dubray, a Parisian sculptor and pupil of Jules Ramey. The artist depicts the 27-year-old hero of the Commune, who was executed by firing squad at the Satory camp in Versailles in November 1871 for "armed desertion". Holding the rank of colonel, he was the only senior army officer to rally to the Paris Commune.
