Marbled calf blotter, boards decorated with framed iron, imp - Lot 350
Marbled calf blotter, boards decorated with framed iron, important decorations in the spandrels of latticework, dots, foliage, stars and vases, stamped in the center with the arms of Marie-Josèphe de Saxe, Duchess of Savoy, the fleur-de-lys on a black background and the ermine mantle on a silver background enhanced in color, smooth spine decorated with roulette.
Dauphine of France through her marriage to Louis de France (son of Louis XV and Marie Leszczsynska), Marie-Josèphe de Saxe was the mother of three French kings, Louis XVI, Charles X and Louis XVIII.
The particular care taken in creating the coat-of-arms, notably in the highlights and gilded iron ornaments, suggests that this desk blotter was actually part of the Dauphine's wardrobe.
