Among the Urama people of the Gulf of Papua, rhombes (imunu viki) were associated with ancestor worship and tutelary forces. The engraved motifs, animated with white and brown pigments, refer to the presence of imunu spirits and were used in rituals to establish a link with the invisible world. The stylized face that dominates the composition underlines the anthropomorphic dimension of the object, in an aesthetic of interweaving and continuity of forms. Operated by rotation, the rhombus produced a vibrant sound interpreted as the voice of the ancestors, reinforcing its ritual power and its role as mediator between the living and the invisible.
