LOBI, Burkina Faso Large female Kothila statue featuring a standing figure with arms raised to the sky. The elongated forms of the arms and legs, combined with a long, slender neck, give the figure a graphic, elevated silhouette. The head, slightly tilted, expresses a playful gentleness, accentuated by wide-open eyes sculpted in relief. The headdress, composed of carefully traced braids, flows backwards in a fluid movement. - Among the Lobi, this type of protective figure is intended to intercept harmful influences and invoke the invisible forces of nature. Arms raised to the sky, hands open, convey a direct appeal to higher powers and ancestors, in a body language imbued with sacred tension. H. 80 cm.
