Madagascar Set of three colonists Set of three colonists: a - Lot 332
Madagascar Set of three colonists Set of three colonists: a cyclist dressed in European costume, a seated figure with his hands on his thighs, and a rider on his mount. Wood, localized polychromy, erosion and missing parts. Height: 23.5 cm. 23.5 to 34 cm This group features stylized colonial figures, highly prized in 20th-century Malagasy folk art. Their direct, sometimes naive treatment reflects a desire to appropriate the visual codes of the time.
