CHINA - HENAN PROVINCE, SONG Dynasty (AD 960 to 1279) - Lot 21
CHINA - HENAN PROVINCE, SONG Dynasty (AD 960 to 1279) Beautiful bottle with narrow neck and straight sides Henan black glazed stoneware, with irregular black, iridescent monochrome glaze. Dimensions: 20 x 11 cm Provenance : Former Bordeaux collection, Baratoux sale, Bordeaux, 2020, expert: Cabinet Portier The black ceramics of Henan, emblematic of the Song dynasty, illustrate a refined, minimalist aesthetic prized by the literate elite. Obtained with a glaze rich in iron and manganese oxides, the irregular black finish with iridescent highlights testifies to the technical innovation of the Hénan workshops. This bottle, probably intended to contain precious oils or liquids, reflects the versatility of utilitarian objects of the period, while embodying the functional elegance typical of the Song. These monochrome ceramics, with their refined design, were highly appreciated for their visual harmony and technical mastery in rituals and daily life. Expert: Serge REYNES
