JAPAN, circa 1900 Buffalo sculpture in bronze with brown patina. Probably an old perfume burner (missing cowherd). H. 10 cm; L. 18.5 cm. Note: The Water Buffalo, with its imposing horns, is a symbol of strength and tranquility in Southeast Asia. It is revered for its vital role in agriculture and its contribution to the daily life of local communities. Provenance: Estate of Mr. Paul HORN (1879-1959). Architect, patron and promoter of L'AUBETTE in Strasbourg. He entrusted the decor of this building to THEO VAN DOESBURG, JEAN ARP and SOPHIE TAUEBER-ARP. Expert: Mrs. Alice JOSSAUME
