Workshop of Alexandre - François DESPORTES (1661 - 1743) Le Déjeuner gras Original oil on canvas (on the reverse, four small thin pieces of backing paper; some restorations, mainly in the background and on some parts of the perimeter). Height 72.4 cm. Width: 91 cm. Related to the composition signed and dated 1704 (Canvas; 65 x 88 cm) forming a counterpart to the Déjeuner maigre in the Bavarian Museums (Cf. Michel and Fabrice Faré, La Vie Silencieuse en France. La Nature Morte au XVIIIe siècle, no. 87 p. 64 - Office du Livre, Fribourg 1796). In their book, the authors study the work of Claude - François Desportes (1695 - 1774) son of Alexandre - François, and that of Nicolas Desportes his nephew (1718 - 1787), active in the workshop of their elder brother. Michel Hubert Descours (1707 - 1775), another renowned pupil of the master, produced a copy of both Déjeuner (former Doucet collection), as did Nicolas (1738), works which the latter insisted on exhibiting at the Salon of 1761 (Cf. idem n° 646 & 647, p.382 & 383).
