Pierre IV MIGEON (1696-1758) Exceptional commode tombeau (chest of drawers) in violet wood veneer with geometrical motifs. It opens on the front with four drawers in three rows underlined by brass fluting and features strongly curved uprights. Very rich ornamentation in chased and gilded bronze, such as spandrels decorated with masks, rocaille foliate cartouches and foliate baguette ending in acanthus-leaf sabots, twisted handles with foliate grips featuring hunting bears, and key escutcheons with sphinxes. Flanders red marble top with bird's beak molding. Stamped and stamped by the jurande. Biography Pierre IV Migeon (1696-1758), heir to a dynasty of Parisian cabinetmakers, is undoubtedly the most prominent figure in his line. Son of Pierre III Migeon, he established himself on rue de Charenton, in the heart of the faubourg Saint-Antoine, where he ran a major workshop. His signature appears on numerous pieces of furniture delivered to a prestigious clientele: the Duc d'Orléans, the Duchesse de Rohan, the Maréchal de Noailles, as well as bishops and diplomats. From the 1740s, he worked for the Garde-Meuble royal and the Menus-Plaisirs, under the protection of Madame de Pompadour. From the 1740s onwards, he worked for the Garde-Meuble royal and the Menus-Plaisirs, benefiting in particular from the support of the Marquise de Pompadour. A cabinetmaker and dealer in one, he worked in partnership with some of the greatest names in the trade - Bircklé, Criaerd, Canabas, Jacques Dubois, Topino - whose stamps were often found alongside his own.
