GERMANY or EASTERN FRANCE circa 1600 Saint Veronica. Important carved limewood subject Height Height : 89cm A few missing pieces and traces of polychromy. Note: The face is very delicate, with a long nose and half-open mouth revealing part of her teeth. She is wearing a wimple, the cape is pleated at the top of her forehead and linked by a circular button at the top of her chest. In her hands, she holds the veil with which Jesus Christ wiped his face and on which the imprint of his Holy Face was miraculously imprinted, hence the belief in Veronica's veil.
