DE GAULLE (Charles). - Lot 41
DE GAULLE (Charles). Autograph letter dated January 5, 1947, addressed to General Koenig, expressing his best wishes, thanking him for his best wishes and discussing the current and future state of France and its Army. 2 pages on one leaf. "My dear friend, Your kind wishes have touched me deeply! I send you mine and my wife's heartfelt greetings for yourself and Madame Koenig. Thank you for the beautiful, well-bound copy of "La France et son armée". One and the other, as always linked for better or worse, are now flapping in the wind. But common sense is slowly returning to the surface of an ocean of foolishness and demagoguery. Inevitable consequences of misfortune. Soon, I'm sure, we'll be able to build. Please convey to Madame Koenig my most respectful tributes, to which my wife adds her warmest regards. For you, my dear friend, my affectionate and devoted feelings! C. de Gaulle. Provenance: General Pierre Koenig, Marshal of France and Companion of the Liberation, then by descent.
