DE GAULLE (Charles). Autograph letter signed dated December 12, 1945 addressed to General Koenig concerning the replacement of General Koeltz. 2 pages on one sheet. "My dear General, General Léger, who has just presented himself to you, has just been appointed by me as deputy to General Koeltz. In my opinion, this is a provisional position. General Léger has been authorized to replace General Koeltz in Berlin. This will be done, if you agree, on January 1. This is no "disgrace" for Koeltz, who has done a great deal under difficult conditions. But, on the one hand, he has exceeded the age limit by two years, and on the other, I believe that his replacement is desirable. Please accept, my dear Koenig, my warmest regards. C. de Gaulle.
