DE GAULLE (Charles). - Lot 39
DE GAULLE (Charles). Autograph letter signed December 23, 52, addressed to General Koenig. 2 pages on one sheet. Inscribed "très confidentiel". Preserved envelope, signed and inscribed "Personelle". Very interesting letter in which General De Gaulle discusses his eye problems, which he insists on keeping confidential. "My dear friend, a very serious physical avatar (eyesight) is forcing me to disappear for several weeks. I tell you this in great secrecy. Because I must do everything in my power to keep this from getting out until I'm back on the scene. For the gallery, I'm spending the holiday season somewhere. Then I'll prepare the trip to Africa. In the meantime, I ask you to get on with things and do, as they say, as best you can. It's impossible for me to do otherwise, and this is a case of force majeure. Moreover, Pompidou and Bonneval will always be able to reach me, and you can use their intermediary as you see fit. This letter and these notices are for you alone, my dear friend. It remains for me to send you my very best wishes for the New Year, and to assure you of my full confidence and devoted friendship. C. de Gaulle. Provenance: General Pierre Koenig, Marshal of France and Companion of the Liberation, then by descent.
