Note: Born in Saint-Malo in 1965, Stéphane Dauthuille studied at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Rennes. After living in Paris and Burgundy
Burgundy, he now lives and works in Lillemer, Brittany. His work is regularly
regularly exhibited in galleries and fairs in France and abroad since 2006.
The artist defines himself as a painter-drawer for whom line, stroke, composition and rhythm are equal parts color and line. This alchemical blend gives rise to an original universe. It's all about transparency, superimposed images, opposing presences and absences. Her paintings hold the key to all poetic possibilities.
In his new series of works, Stéphane Dauthuille gives pride of place to plants, a theme often present in his work, but which today unfolds freely to irrigate the whole of his universe. Waxed gouache, the artist's preferred technique, orchestrates fresh, vibrant compositions in which painting and drawing each play a more or less predominant but always accurate and unexpected score. Colors are vivid, textures fluid, and every detail is poetically reinvented to create mysterious variations around bouquets of unlikely essences and wild branches, or flowers and leaves floating weightlessly on a delicately silky background.
