Nissan ENGEL (1931-2016) - Lot 9

Nissan ENGEL (1931-2016) Secret 50F Mixed media Original painting 88 x 116 cm Note: Nissan Engel was born in Haifa, Israel, in 1931. After several years in New York, he chose to settle in Paris. His lyrical, mystical style is the expression of an extraordinary sense of color and perfect technical mastery. Here, pictorial space is the locus of action, dialogue, contradictions and internal correspondences between objects. The elements that make it up, in perpetual motion, are diverted from their usual value to become the power of visual evocation. "Nissan Engel's painting strikes me as being, without denying everything that makes painting a sensual art, above all an art of mental tactics, where the image has its own value, its own organization and, what's more, an almost moral rigor. Through the tactics of language, in language, Nissan Engel manages to create an image in the image.Engel is a great pictorial temperament, with the intelligence of a tactician of the language of the image. It's the double image, it's beyond the image, that he gives us to see, and to dream about", said critic Pierre Restany.
