[SNCF] Collection of railway sleeper nails Most of them are dated (the year of manufacture is shown on the square heads; if there's a dot under the year, it's the 19th century): the oldest in our collection dates from 1898 and comes from the Versailles Rive Droite station, and the most recent dates from the late 1980s. One peculiarity is that one of the nails is marked not with the year of manufacture, but with "MG", which stands for Ministère de la Guerre, a nail from the 1914-18 era. For further information on sleeper nails, see attached document: extract from the catalog Trains de rêve, rêves de train (Éditions du Musée Français du Chemin de Fer, 1991), page 246, section "le repérage".
