MATHIEU MATÉGOT (1910-2001) - Lot 319
MATHIEU MATÉGOT (1910-2001) "Woodwork created for the attic of Dr. Claoué's duplex apartment, Paris, 1961. Woodwork for the room housing the island previously sold, consisting of two hinged doors housing a dressing table, a door containing the small folding desk sold in the previous lot, and a door opening onto a corridor. Original brass cabinet handles. Handle and keyhole on bedroom door probably added. Provenance: Succession Claoué, Paris. Provenance and history: Succession Claoué, Paris. In 1956, Mathieu Matégot decorated Dr. Claoué's clinic with furniture partly in lacquered or perforated metal. Included in this ensemble was a large desk with a base sheathed in black saddle-stitched leather and a large clear glass slab top. In 1961, five years after building his clinic, Dr Claoué naturally commissioned the decorator to arrange and decorate the attic rooms above his Paris apartment. This large cherry-wood veneer paneling was installed in the part of the attic that housed the living-room island. Important note This designation was drawn up by the expert on the basis of photographs. This paneled room is sold by designation and will be removed by prior appointment in Paris (XVIème) - The dismantling of the paneled room will be the responsibility of the purchaser, who may be charged for any damage inflicted on the structure.
