MATHIEU MATÉGOT (1910-2001) - Lot 315
MATHIEU MATÉGOT (1910-2001) "Furniture specially designed and created for the artist to decorate the attic of Dr Claoué's duplex apartment, Paris, 1961. A single bed that can also be used as a bench; a continuation of the island shown in the previous number. Head, foot and long sides in cherrywood veneer. Conical brass feet, each fitted with a castor; not original, but probably assembled at the time. H. 80 cm - L. 196 cm - W. 94 cm Used condition, chips, scattered cracks in veneer, oxidation on brass parts. Provenance and history : Succession Claoué, Paris. In 1956, Mathieu Matégot decorated Dr. Claoué's clinic with furniture partly in lacquered or perforated metal. Included in this ensemble was a large desk with a base sheathed in black saddle-stitched leather and a large clear glass slab top. In 1961, five years after building his clinic, Dr Claoué naturally commissioned the decorator to arrange and decorate the attic rooms above his Paris apartment. Our bed formed an extension of the island designed by Mathieu Matégot for this installation. Bibliography : Patrick Favardin - Mathieu Matégot - Éditions Galerie Matthieu Richard & Éditions Norma, Paris, 2014. Our bed, situated in the attic, featured in a color archival photograph reproduced on full page 284. Expert : Emmanuel Eyraud
