Broken Duchesse in molded beech and gray relacquer. The curved crosspieces rest on curved legs decorated with spandrels. Backrest is curved. One leg slightly shortened and small graft at the waist. Louis XV period Dimensions Bergère : Height. 96 cm Width : 66 cm Depth : 54 cm Toe length : 72 cm Stamped BAUVE for Mathieu BAUVE or DEBAUVE (died 1786), received master on August 1, 1754. Bibliography: P. Kjellberg, Le Mobilier du XVIIIe siècle, Les Éditions de l'Amateur, Paris, 1989, pp. 46-49. Mathieu Debauve or Bauve was awarded the title of Master on August 1, 1754. Based on the rue de Cléry, he produced seating in both Louis XV and Louis XVI styles. He received a number of prestigious commissions, including seats for Queen Marie-Antoinette's box at the Versailles theater. A strong character, he is said to have had a number of run-ins with carpenters with whom he may have collaborated, such as Delanois and Boulard.
